  • My No. 1 goal is to be present and responsive to my constituents from Arcata, Blue Lake, Bayside, Manila, Freshwater, Indianola and Kneeland — the same constituency that I’ve been serving for the last 10 years on the harbor district.
  • I want to enable movement toward a future-based economy. We need a strong partnership with HSU to create more economic diversification and job opportunities through pre-permitting and technology development similar to what the Harbor District has bee
  • I want to finish the regional trail system links from Arcata to the Mad River, Blue Lake to Glendale, and Arcata to Eureka.
Profession:Civil Engineer
Commissioner for the 3rd Division, Humboldt Bay Harbor Recreation and Conservation District — Elected position (2006current)
Humboldt State University Master of Science, Environmental Resource Engineering (not availa)
San Francisco State University Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering (not availa)

Mike was raised in Humboldt County, and after attending college out of the area he was able to move back home where he earned his Master’s Degree in Environmental Systems Engineering from HSU. Mike and his wife, Laura, own a home and are raising their two daughters in the third district.

Mike first worked for the Humboldt County Division of Environmental Health before starting an engineering and project management consulting business with Laura. As a professional engineer he has served on the design and management teams for award-winning projects including Potawot Health Village, the restoration of Indian Island and the Humboldt Bay Nature Center. In addition, Mike has worked as a board member and volunteer for many local committees and non-profits.

Ten years ago Mike ran for a seat on the Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District because he saw the potential for the district to do a better job of balancing environmental stewardship and economic development in and around the bay.

As a commissioner he has helped lead the district in cleaning up of four million gallons of toxic waste at the former Samoa pulp mill, promoting sustainable growth of the shellfish industry, restoring large-scale wetlands, providing more recreational access to the bay and addressing sea level rise.

Mike has also served on the Redwood Regional Economic Development Commission, the Workforce Investment Board and the Humboldt Bay Economic Development Committee. Working with a politically diverse board, he helped to stabilized and improve the financial status of the district during difficult economic times.

Mike is a musician, an avid fisherman and has been a North Coast Co-op member since 1986.

Mike’s experiences as the Third District commissioner at the Harbor District, as an environmental engineer and as a community volunteer have given him the skills and experience to thoughtfully and fairly represent the third district on the Board of Supervisors. With your vote he can continue to work hard to provide fair and transparent leadership for our community.
